8 Snowfall And Skiing Destinations In India

With the arrival of winter season, tourist from plain areas started arriving the hilly areas. The year 2020 is in its final phase. As we all know, the whole year will be known for historical events, but in the last round of the year, two big festivals like Christmas and New Year are ahead of us. In such a situation, people are planning to go to the hill areas and enjoy. 

If you too are planning a trip to mountains for enjoying snowfall and adventure sports, then you are at right place. We will tell you about some selected top mountain areas, where there is a possibility of snowfall in December and January.

Pahalgam and Gulmarg

 If you want to enjoy the snow-covered trees and the white-covered scenery then go to Pahalgam and Gulmarg.  These places are also best for adventure sports lovers. Gulmarg is 1 hour 40 minutes from Srinagar airport and Pahalgam is about 2 hours away. The nearest station is Jammu, from where Gulmarg is 9 hours 20 minutes and Pahalgam is 7 hours 30 minutes away.

 Ladakh

 Another great place for adventure and snow lovers is Ladakh. This region is covered with snow from December to February. Pangong Lake remains frozen there in this season . During this time one can also enjoy festivals like Dosmoche, Stok Guru Tsechu and Matho Nagrang festival. If you want to go by flight, then you have to take a flight to Leh, while the nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi.

 Nainital

 Nainital is full of natural beauty.  The snow cover seen in the winter season adds to this beauty.  Enjoy local food as you roam on the streets. The nearest airport is Pantnagar, from where Nainital can be reached by road in about two hours. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam which is about an hour away.

 Manali

 Manali is one of the most famous tourist spots. There is a lot of crowd here on New Year which starts to subside in a few days.  Apart from enjoying the snow here, activities such as paragliding, snowboarding can be enjoyed in Rohtang located nearby. The nearest airport is Kullu-Manali which is one hour away, while the nearest station is Joginder Nagar railway station which is four hours away.

 Khajjiar

 The Khajjiar in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has greenery all around, but in the winter, this greenery is covered with a white sheet of snow, which makes it perfect for snow lovers.  Activities like paragliding, tube skiing and snow skating can be enjoyed here. The nearest airport from Khajjiar is Gaggal and the railway station Pathankot.

Kufri

 Kufri is a gem hidden in Himachal Pradesh. The place attracts many tourists, especially skiers.  Kufri’s snow-capped slopes are ideal for skiing. Kufri is definitely a popular destination for snow skiing in India and every year hundreds of skiers from all over the country come here to ski and do some adventure.

Munsiyari

 Munsiyari is located in Pithoragarh, the eastern hill district of Uttarakhand, bordering Tibet, also known as ‘Little Kashmir’. Munsiyari is another famous skiing destination in India, located at the beginning of the Johar Valley. Munsiyari is an attractive centre for climbers, glacier enthusiasts and high altitude trekkers. Snow-clad slopes also provide a great opportunity to test your skiing skills.  This region is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure people. From here one can get a breath-taking view of the Himalayan peak, Panchchuli. October to February is the best time to go to Munsiyari for skiing.

 Auli

 Auli is located in the western region of the Gharwal hills at an altitude of 2500 to 3000 meters above sea level. This place is mostly untouched by the general public and is very clean. Apart from being one of the best skiing destinations in India, Auli also provides every skier with spectacular views of many snow-clad peaks such as Dunagiri, Mount Nanda Devi, Nar Parvat, Maina Parvat, Ghori Parvat, Nilkanth, Beerthaoli and Hathi Parvat.
