Controversies are very common in secular country like India. It is rather a sign of a healthy society when debates arise. There is nothing sure as to what will catch the fancy of this culturally, politically and emotionally diverse country like India. But sometimes the situation spirals into a controversy.
- Padmawat – Everything from Religion and Art To Personal Choices
Padwamat becomes the much talked about controversy in 2018. Even after the agitation by Karni Sena, name of the movie had to be changed. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie’s release was delayed because as per the Karni Sena, it showed the Rajput queen in a bad light. Posters were burnt, property was destroyed which raised the agitation. Threats were made to Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to walk away from the movie. The agitation demands the filmmakers to edit controversial scenes. Because of their agitation, a saree clad Deepika Padukone’s midriff had to be covered using special effects.
- Name changing spree – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister created the buzz with the name change controversy. CM Yogi involved in renaming of many places. Mughalsarai station was renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Allahabad became Prayagraj, Faizabad district became Ayodhya district. It’s only after CM Yogi Adityanath promised not to rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar did the pace of the name changing spree appeared to slow down.

- Aadhar – Aadhar came into existence for the poorer sections of society to help them get government subsidy directly in their bank account, the Aadhaar card assumed ubiquitous nature after PM Narendra Modi’s push for Digital India. After the Supreme Court Verdict Aadhaar was made mandatory to open bank accounts, new mobile numbers and many other essential things. Even Aadhaar become mandatory for PAN number. But soon it become controversial as some serious privacy concerns were raised. Several online security researchers and experts claimed to obtain private data including address, phone number and photos. Private data is a serious concern.
