Negligence is one of the most common causes of train accidents in India. It can be the negligence of the railway department that it was not able to maintain the infrastructure. It can also be due to the negligence of the driver who either has not seen or misunderstood the signals. Thus, it can be truly said that with some negligence and maintenance of the railway’s infrastructure, train accidents can be prevented. Every year hundreds of people are killed in the train accidents in India. Statistical view of the train accidents in India is quite disappointing.
Recent train accidents
If you check the statistics of the train accidents in India then you will find there is a huge decrease in the number of train accidents from the past few years. Thanks to the latest technologies introduced in the signalling system and renewal of railway tracks. This prevents the rail accidents to a lot extent. Last year on Dussehra, a major rail accident had occurred at Amritsar. Hundreds of people throng the place near the railway track to see the firework after Ravan is set on fire. According to the driver of the train which met with an accident, he had given the green signal but the crowd didn’t clear of the track which led to the killing of several people. In 2017-2018, the number of train accidents was 254 while in 2019 from January to June a total of 2 train accidents are reported as major accidents.

Causes of the train accidents
Derailment and collisions are the causes of the train accidents in India. Out of the total number of train accidents that occur in 2017, 2018 and 2019, most of the accidents are caused due to these two reasons.
Reduction in the train accidents
Thanks to the concern of the government, sufficient funding to railways and concern for the replacement of the old tracks and train components, the condition of the railway has been improved a lot. This also has led to the reduction in the number of train accidents and helped a lot in saving lives of innocent people.
