History
Assam is the easternmost keeper of India endowed with landscape and the enchanting natural beauty. The state is blessed with beautiful lush covers of greenery, river and chain of mountains. This state is the place of tribals,various races and ethnic groups since its emergence.
The name ‘Asom’ and ‘Ahom’ was most probably given by the Ahoms, who came Assam in 1200 A.D and ruled for nearly 6 hundred years. The era of Ahom is the glorious period of Assam.
The state shares its boundaries with Meghalaya,Tripura,Mizoram to the south, Nagaland and Manipur to the east, Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh to the north and it is best known for Assam Tea and Assam Silk.
