Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the Legion of Merit Award in the US. Indian Ambassador to US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, received this award on behalf of PM Modi. It is being told that President Trump himself nominated PM Modi for this award.
US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien gave the honor to Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu. He tweeted a picture of the occasion and wrote that President Donald Trump has honored the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Legion of Merit, an honor for the way he has brought India to the global stage and strengthened Indo-US relations.
Legion of Merit: The prestigious award
The Legion of Merit Award is a prestigious honor for America. This honor is given for exceptional work done in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The award is also conferred on the heads of other countries as well as officers of the US Army.

The Legion of Merit Medal was launched by the US Parliament (Congress) on 20 July 1942. Apart from American soldiers, this award is also given to soldiers and politicians from abroad who have given exceptional services.

In addition to PM Modi, Trump has given this honor to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. America’s relations with these two countries are also very strong.
Reasons for conferring the award
According to America, under the leadership of PM Modi , India is emerging as a global power. At the same time, the Prime Minister of India played an important role in increasing strategic partnership with America and in meeting global challenges. Whereas, Sinzo Abe was given the honor to maintain security in the Pacific while keeping its free. Morrison was given this award for overcoming the Global Challenges successfully.

Prime Minister Modi received the Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud (Saudi Arabia) in 2016, the State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan (Afghanistan) in 2016, the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine (Palestine) Award in 2018, the Order of Zayed Award (UAE) in 2019, the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle (Russia) was awarded in 2019 and the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (Maldives) in the same year.
