Around 25 lakh people registered on the CoWin portal on the first day of the second phase of vaccination in the country. There are 24.5 lakh common people, 50,000 healthcare and frontline workers. However, some people had misinformation that registration could be done on the CoWin app. The Health Ministry then clarified that the app is for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, not for registration and appointment. Registration will be only on the portal www.cowin.gov.in.

More than 4 lakh people were vaccinated on the first day of the second phase
3 lakh 25 thousand 485, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the 1st dose, whereas 101587 healthcare workers took the second dose.
On the first day, 1,28,430 people over 60 years of age were given the first dose of corona vaccine. 18,850 people over the age of 45 who are suffering from serious illnesses were also vaccinated. The corona vaccination campaign in the country began on 16 January. In these 45 days, 1.47 crore corona doses have been given.
In the second phase, 27 crore people will be vaccinated
In the ongoing second phase, people above 60 years of age will be vaccinated. Besides, people who are between 45 and 60 years of age will also be vaccinated, who are suffering from serious diseases. The central government estimates that around 27 crore people fall into this category.
Vaccination at 24 thousand local centres
People will be able to make an appointment at the centre near their home. Currently, vaccination is taking place only in government hospitals and health centres which are about 12 thousand in number. The hospitals empanelled with Ayushman Bharat Abhiyan or CGHS Hospitals, which are 12,000, will also conduct vaccination drive soon. In this way, there will be vaccination on a total of 24 thousand local centres.
Where eligible ones can register for the COVID-19 vaccine?
- Citizens can register through the CoWIN 2.0 portal or IT applications like Arogya Setu and book an appointment for vaccination.
- There is also a provision for a walk-in. If a specified number of people do not reach a hospital or health centre to get vaccinated, then those who reach there directly can be vaccinated.
- Eligible beneficiaries can choose the centre of their choice. Can book an appointment based on the available slots.
