The 75th Cannes Film Festival opened on May 17. At this year’s festival, India has shown renewed vigor, enthusiasm, and power, which is a cause of great pride. For the past two years, the corona outbreak had wreaked havoc on everyone’s lives. In such circumstances, the biggest get-together of films returned to Cannes City, France, after a two-year break.
This year’s film festival is special for India in several respects because it is the Country of Honor at Cannes. This ritual, however, began this year, with India becoming the first. The ‘Country of Honour Status’ secured India’s presence as the focus country for the Marche Du Films’, which was held at the Majestic Beach and focused on India, its movies, culture, and tradition.
Cannes 2022-Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav:
Because this year marks the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the Indian government has decided to showcase Indian cinema around the world as part of the Amrit Mahotsava of Independence. This year’s Cannes Film Festival will feature six Indian films. Films and documentaries in Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, and Hindi are among them.
Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, is in attendance this year. He walked the Cannes red carpet alongside AR Rahman, Shekhar Kapur, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. In addition, this is the first time an Indian politician has walked the Cannes red carpet. Many Indian divas like Pooja Hegde, Aishwarya Rai, Hina Khan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Urvashi Rautela, and more Indian superstars are attending the festival.

This is a very momentous moment for India politically, as the two nations( France and India) are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. Prime Minister Modi congratulated all of the celebrities and their entourages attending Cannes. ’75 years of Indo-French friendship, 75 years of independence, and the Cannes Film Festival are all being commemorated at the same moment,’ PM Modi stated.

The fact that actress Deepika Padukone is among the jury members, on the other hand, demonstrates that Indian cinema and Indian artists have not only won the hearts of people throughout the world but have also impacted their lives. Deepika Padukone is the first Indian actress to be selected for the Cannes Film Festival jury. The jury will choose one of the 21 films that will get the prestigious Palme d’Or award.
