On the morning of Thursday veteran, former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. We had already discussed in our previous article that why he left the party. Today in this article we will see the family legacy of Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia.
After the death of Aurangzeb, Marathi came into power. The conquest which was started by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was expanded under Peshwa’s rule. Eventually, Peshwa became more powerful than the king and became a de facto ruler. To further strengthen the Maratha empire Peshwa gave some autonomy to his most trustworthy commanders in different regions of the country. These semi-autonomous commanders form their own dynasty and this together called Maratha confederacy. This confederacy consists five major seats are the most powerful seat was of Pune which was ruled by Peshwa and the other forever the seat of Baroda which was ruled by Gaikwad, the seat of Indore ruled by Holkar, the seat of Nagpur which was ruled by Bhonsle and the seat of Gwalior which was ruled by Scindias( actually it was Shinde, Scindia is the English name of Shinde).
the Scindia dynasty was founded by Ranoji Scindia, his father was the Deshmukh of Kanherked, a village in Satara district. He made his capital at Ujjain. The legacy continued and gradually Scindia became the most powerful among the other three. Ranoji was succeeded by Jayajirao, you are succeeded by Jyotiba Rao, Dattajirao, Jankoji Rao, Mahadji and Daulat Rao. Among them, Mahadji Scindia was the most successful statesman he was the youngest son of Ranoji. he played the most important role in preventing the fall of Maratha power in Northern India after the third battle of Panipat. Also, he alone defeated the British in Northern India during the first Anglo Maratha war.
After third Anglo Maratha war, the power of Maratha empire came to an end, so they were forced to accept the paramountcy of the British Empire. The crowd was forced to sign subsidiary alliance, after that this India has remained loyal to British and remained de jure rulers of Gwalior with some autonomy.
Scindia family is known for their lavish lifestyle, also the Scindia School After Independence, the Scindia family actively entered into politics. Some prominent politicians of the Scindia family are:
George Jivaji Rao Scindia
He was the last reigning ruler of Gwalior state, later he agreed to sign the instrument of accession and merged his state in Madhya Bharat state of Indian Union. The government of India appointed him Rajpramukh, or governor, of Madhya Bharat state.
Madhav Rao Scindia
He succeeded his father Jivajirao and became the last titular Maharaja of Gwalior. As his family always patronized Jan Sangh, initially was in Jan Sangh and won his first selection on the ticket of Jan Sangh( later became Bharatiya Janata Party). Later, he joined the Congress party in 1980 and remain Royal to the party till his death. He held several major portfolios during the Congress regime and died in 2002.

Vijyaraje Scindia
She was the wife of George Jiwajirao, after his death she entered into politics and won the election of Lok Sabha. She initially had allegiance towards Congress but later she became a prominent figure of Jana sangha.

Vasundhara Raje
She is the daughter of Shivaji and Vijayaraje, due to family inclination she joined BJP and contested elections on BJP ticket, she won Five times parliamentary polls. She also helped position in Atal Bihari is cabinet. Later Under whose leadership BJP formed government in Rajasthan and she became Chief Minister. Again in 2013, she bagged the assembly polls of Rajasthan.
Yashodhara Raje Scindia
She is another daughter of Vijayaraje, she contested assembly elections from Madhya Pradesh SHIVPURI seat, also she won Lok Sabha seat 2 times from Madhya Pradesh. During Shivraj Singh Chauhan, she was handling the ministry of tourism sports and youth affairs.
Jyotiraditya Scindia
He is the son of Madhav Rao Scindia, he started his political career with Indian National Congress. He won the Lok Sabha elections from the Guna constituency after the death of his father. Since 2004 Jyotiraditya remained in the council of ministers and in 2012 he was given the independent charge of Power Ministry as a Minister of State. He was the most influential congress leader in Madhya Pradesh, but due to some differences with top and state leadership of congress Jyotiraditya left congress and Joined BJP recently and likely to become a minister through the route of Rajya Sabha, if BJP forms the government in Madhya Pradesh.
Dushyant Singh
He is the son of the last titular Ruler of Dholpur, Rajasthan and Vasundhara Raje. He entered Politics and Currently is a member of Loksabha
So from the above Scindia lineage, we can understand that the role of Scindia family in Indian politics is very notable since the independence of India.
