- In first of its kind, the World Bank has issued a Wildlife Conservation Bond (WCB) to support South Africa’s efforts to conserve the endangered species of black rhino. Wildlife Conservation Bonds are also known as Rhino Bonds. It is a five-year $150 million sustainable development bond. This includes a potential performance payout from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The bond will contribute to saving and increasing black rhino populations in two protected areas in South Africa, namely the Addo Elephant National Park and the Great Fish River Nature Reserve.
- The Taliban government of Afghanistan has banned the education of girls after the sixth grade. Taliban did not open secondary school for girls while rebutting the promise. In protest, women and girls have come out on the streets. People have protested outside the Taliban’s education ministry on Saturday while demanding to open schools for girls. As girls started attending school after the start of the new academic year, the Taliban issued orders last week to close the schools at the last moment.
- Breaking all the records Kuwait reached a hot temperature of 53.2 degrees Celsius making it one of the hottest places on Earth. It was so hot last summer in Kuwait that the birds died in the sky. The sea horses died due to boiling water in the bay. Dead clams coated the rocks, their shells popped open like they’d been steamed.
- Amidst the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has been conducting a large-scale military exercise Cold Response 2022 in Norway from March 14, 2022, and will continue till April 01, 2022. The exercise is held in Norway every other year for NATO allies and partners. The cold response is a long-planned and defensive exercise where Norway and its allies practice to protect Norway from external threats. The exercises, however, were planned and reported long before the war in Ukraine. The Norwegian-led exercise provides an opportunity to train together in cold weather conditions over challenging terrain and demonstrates NATO’s ability to respond decisively to any threat. Around 30,000 troops from 27 countries are participating in the 2022 edition of the exercise, with around 220 aircraft and over 50 ships. It is the largest ‘cold response’ exercise being carried out in Norway since the 1980s.

- The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has passed a resolution holding Russia responsible for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Along with this, an appeal has also been made for an immediate ceasefire. At the same time, once again India was absent in the UNGA to vote on this proposal. This motion was approved with 140 votes. At the same time, 38 countries remained absent and five member countries opposed the proposal.
- For the first time in the history of Saudi Arabia, women will now be part of the Border Guards. Saudi Interior Ministry said that women can also register for this position. After this welcome move, women will also come forward in government and private sector. Earlier, women guards were deployed in Mecca for the safety and care of Haj pilgrims. Saudi Arabia opened up the posts for women in the army for the first time in February last year. Women now have the opportunity to join the military, the Royal Air Defence, the Navy, the Royal Saudi Strategic Missile Forces and the medical services of the Armed Forces.
- WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange married his lawyer fiancée Stella on Wednesday at Belmarsh Prison in southeast London. He is in jail here as part of his legal battle against being extradited to the US on charges of allegedly leaking confidential documents. The marriage took place in the high-security Belmarsh prison. - A China Eastern Passenger Airlines plane crashed in Guangxi, China on Monday. In just 2 minutes the plane came down 30 thousand feet. All 132 people, including the crew members on board the plane, are said to have died. The reason for the plane crash has not been revealed yet. The team probing the matter says that it is too early to say anything about the cause of the plane crash. The team said that the pilot flying the plane was ill or he took the suicide step due to some reason, the plane crashed due to bad weather or it was a terrorist attack, all these possibilities are being taken into account. The identity of 120 victims has been determined by DNA identification. Aviation authorities have recovered a black box which is believed to be the cockpit voice recorder, which should provide important clues to the cause of the crash.
