Pakistan has once again been troubled by the UN Security Council (UNSC) closed-door informal meeting. All the countries included in the council clarified their stand on Jammu and Kashmir and called it a bilateral issue. At the same time, the council said that this issue is not something that needs time and attention. This information was given by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations T.S. Trimurthy. On Wednesday, India once again lashed out at the nefarious act of taking Kashmir issue to the UN Security Council stage by Pakistan. India said that the entire world considers Kashmir issue as a bilateral issue and it is not something on which the international body should focus its time and attention.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations T.S. Tirumurthy said that Pakistan had once again unsuccessfully tried to raise the issue with the international body. Tirumurthy said that almost all countries in the council meeting agreed that the Kashmir issue was a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. In such a situation, this attempt of Pakistan once again failed.

Meanwhile, a source said that in the Council meeting, the US stood with India while not taking any decision on the issue while handling the front. As we know that Pakistan has been trying to raise the Kashmir issue from time to time since the Indian Parliament passed a law in August last year revoking the Article 370 and terminating special status of Jammu and Kashmir and making it a Union Territory.
Pakistan has pushed forward this campaign to bring China, a permanent member of the Security Council, in its favour. However, nothing was taken on record nor was any statement released in the media from the 15-member council meeting held in a closed-door informal meeting.
Tirumurthy said that since November 1965, the issue has not been discussed in any formal meeting of the council till date. There have been informal meetings only twice in August 2019 and January 2020.
For your information, in the first informal meeting held in August 2019, China strongly criticized India for the removal of special state status of Kashmir. However, India had clearly told the international community that the removal of Article 370 is its own internal issue.
