Tamil superstar Rajnikanth is about to enter politics, he said on Twitter on Thursday that he will launch his political party in January next year. He said that party will be announced on 31 December. Assembly elections are due in Tamil Nadu next year. He met the district secretaries of ‘Rajni Makkal Mandram’ – the political expansion of his fan club on Monday and contemplated future prospects for his foray into politics. After meeting Rajnikanth told, “They (executives) told me that whatever my decision will be, they are all with me. I will convey my decision (on political grounds) at the earliest.”

Rajnikanth’s fans shouted slogans for him as the next chief minister at the meeting venue and his residence. Rajnikanth reportedly talked for about 1.5 hours in the meeting. Thuthukudi District Secretary AJ Stalin said, “Most of the officials wanted him to contest in the 2021 assembly elections, but we want him to take care of his health.” In October 2016, he underwent a kidney transplant in the United States.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, doctors were against his entry into politics. Rajinikanth first announced his entry into politics in December 2017. But he had not taken any concrete steps to form his own party. In March 2020, Rajinikanth said that he would take charge of his party, but he wanted any other person to be his chief minister candidate. However, Rajinikanth in his political plans only made sure that his politics would be on the lines of spirituality.

On the other hand, Rajnikanth’s contemporary in films and politics, Kamal Haasan, who contested from his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, in the 2019 parliamentary elections and is now preparing to field candidates for 234 assembly seats.
