Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty was crowned as the winner of British reality show “Big Brother”. She bagged the prize amount of 100,000 pounds (nearly Rs 85 lakh). As soon as the result was announced, she bursts into tear on knowing that she had won the public vote. All she had said was “incredible and overwhelming”. She thanks the public for giving her a fantastic opportunity to make her country proud.

Shilpa was bullied at the show

Shilpa was one of the favourite contestants of the public and the controversial too in the history of Big Brother. She was alleged victim of bullying by her fellow contestant, Goody, on the basis of race.  When host Davina McCall was asked about the race row, Shilpa Shetty insisted Jade Goody that she didn’t mean to be racist. In an interview with the host, another contestant Lloyd felt upset when footage of his behaviour with Shilpa over racism was shown. She said that he then felt terrible. Also, Tweed, boyfriend of Jane Goody, said that there was nothing related to the skin. Later, Lloyd and Tweed apologised for their behaviour. Her remarks were just in the heat of the moment.

Shilpa won public affection

There was no doubt that 31-year-old actress had won public affection during the last 4 weeks in the show. She was bullied by the fellow housemates Jade Goody, Jo O’Meara and Danielle Lloyd. Former S Club 7 star Jo O’Meara denied that she was racist. Singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins said that it was completely out of the depth when fighting in the house was at its intense. After the controversy of racist comments on Shilpa, there were several protests in India against the show.  This enabled British Prime Minister Tony Blair to the then Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath to comment upon this. 

 After this show, Shilpa Shetty had found full-fledged career for herself and no doubt   she had been able to successfully establish herself as a professional celebrity.
